YMCA Swim Lessons teach kids more than how to
swim. Thousands of area children have learned
how to swim and how to be safe in the water
by participating in progressive swim lessons
offered through the Y. At the YMCA, not only
do children learn how to swim and practice water
safety guidelines, they also learn the core
values of the YMCA and its mission. These values
are caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
The objectives to Parent/child, Preschool, and
Youth lessons are: fun, exercise, parent education,
water adjustment,
boating safety, safety education, and use of
personal flotation devices.

Barracudas
The Barracudas are a multi-level, competitive
swim team meeting the needs of individual swimmers.
In the tradition of the YMCA, the Charleston
YMCA Swim Team program emphasizes sportsmanship,
competition and development of mind, body and
team spirit.
The
Barracudas participate in the Winter ‘Y’ League
Swim Meets, which are dual team meets. The team
is a member of the Southeast Ohio/West Virginia
Cluster. The season is comprised of home and
away dual meets against other YMCA Teams. We
offer a Winter and a Summer swim league. Swimmers
who qualify can compete at the YMCA Ohio/WV
Cluster Championships held in Athens, Ohio and
the YMCA National Championships
traditionally held in Florida.
For more information please contact Head Swim
Coach Josh Gross at 340-3535.
Masters
The YMCA Master’s program is for anyone over
the age of 18 who wishes to swim laps and work
on strokes. You do not have to be a competitive
swimmer to enjoy this fantastic exercise. The
Charleston Family YMCA is also a registered
team with the United States Masters Swimming
(USMS). For more information please contact
Renea Lopetrone at 340-3535.
